At the American International School of Ethiopia (AISE), regular attendance is essential for student learning and academic success. Students are expected to attend school every day and arrive on time. Consistent attendance helps students fully participate in classroom learning, collaborative activities, and assessments.
Parents and guardians play an important role in ensuring that students attend school regularly and arrive prepared for the school day.
Student Absences #
Students should be absent only for valid and unavoidable reasons, such as illness, family emergencies, or other approved circumstances.
- If a student is seriously ill, parents should keep the student at home and notify the school as soon as possible.
- When a student returns to school after an illness-related absence, the student must provide a doctor’s note or written explanation from a parent/guardian and submit it to the homeroom teacher or school office.
- For students in the Early Childhood (KG) division, direct communication between parents and the school administration is acceptable when reporting an absence.
Reporting an Absence #
Parents must inform the school on the day of the student’s absence by contacting the school office or through the school’s official communication channels.
- If the school does not receive notification, the school may contact the family to confirm the student’s safety and reason for absence.
- Parents may report absences through telephone, email, or the school communication platform.
Extended Absences #
AISE strongly discourages extended absences during the academic year, especially for vacations or non-essential travel.
- Extended leave during school days may not be approved except in exceptional circumstances.
- Parents must inform the school administration in advance if a student will be absent for multiple days.
Responsibility for Missed Work #
Students who are absent are responsible for making up any missed assignments, lessons, quizzes, or tests.
- Teachers will provide guidance on how students can catch up on missed work.
- Parents are encouraged to support their child in completing missed assignments promptly.
- Students should review the E-Communication Book or contact their teacher to stay updated on missed lessons.
Importance of Regular Attendance #
Frequent absences may affect a student’s academic performance, participation, and assessment results. Therefore, AISE encourages families to prioritize consistent school attendance and punctuality.
AISE appreciates the cooperation of parents and students in maintaining strong attendance habits that support academic excellence and student success.
