Purpose #
The American International School of Ethiopia provides students with opportunities to improve their learning and assessment results through the following guidelines:
Test Retake Guideline #
Students may retake one (1) summative assessment per quarter in each course. Unused retakes cannot be carried over.
Students may redo or retake an assignment or test once. Additional opportunities may be provided at the parents’ request.
Retakes are intended to help students improve their understanding and performance. Students who score below 83 may have one opportunity per grading period to redo or retake a relevant assessment.
The student must initiate the retake request by completing the Retake Learning Plan Form and informing the teacher. A parent’s signature is required.
Before retesting, students must complete a teacher-designed learning plan, which may include corrections, review work, additional assignments, or attending after-school tutorials. The student must attend a tutorial session in the subject area of the test (not necessarily same teacher) prior to the re-test.
The learning plan is preparation for the retake and does not replace the reassessment.
Retakes are usually taken before or after school, not during regular class time, unless special arrangements are approved.
The reassessment may have different questions, but the same level of difficulty. Teachers may adjust the format if necessary.
Retakes must be scheduled within two (2) weeks after the original assessment is returned, unless special circumstances apply.
Retakes are usually taken before or after school, not during regular class time, unless special arrangements are approved.
The higher score between the original and the retake will be recorded in the gradebook. The highest grade a student will receive on a retest is 86%.
Students must attend the scheduled retake and complete all required steps. Failure to meet these requirements may result in losing the retake opportunity.
