Pi Day Celebration at AISE

Pi Day is celebrated annually on March 14 (3/14), representing the first three digits of the mathematical constant π (pi), which is approximately equal to 3.14. Pi is an essential number in mathematics, used to calculate the circumference and area of circles, and it plays a significant role in science, engineering, and everyday problem-solving. Around the world, Pi Day is marked with fun and educational activities that promote a love for mathematics.

At the American International School of Ethiopia (AISE), Pi Day was enthusiastically celebrated on March 13 in the school compound with a variety of exciting and engaging events. Students from all grade levels participated actively, making the day both educational and enjoyable.

Our KG students added a delightful touch to the celebration by bringing and sharing creatively designed “pi cakes,” combining fun with learning. Meanwhile, students from Grades 1–12 showcased their mathematical skills by participating in the Pi digit memorization competition, where they challenged themselves to recall as many digits of π as possible.

2nd – Sara Ataklti (4B) – 157 digits
3rd – Amen Andargie (4A) – 140 digits

5th – Nebat Amanu (4B) – 120 digits

Grades 5–12 Division
1st – Reyan Mohammed (Grade 12A) – 222 digits
2nd – Lukhena Enlefew (Grade 9A) – 159 digits
3rd – Debrah Bereket (Grade 10) – 148 digits
4th – Blen Berhan (Grade 10A) – 139 digits
5th – Selwa Mehbub (Grade 10A) – 137 digits

The celebration not only highlighted students’ impressive memorization skills but also encouraged enthusiasm for mathematics in a fun and interactive way. Pi Day at AISE was a great success, bringing together learning, creativity, and friendly competition.
